High School Sports Shine in Holiday Spotlight
Sports fans had a lot to look forward to this holiday season: the NBA was finally starting its season, the NFL was wrapping up its regular season and college bowl games were getting underway. But if you are a fan of high school sports, Maryland was the place to be for the holidays. Two major high school sporting events took place in Maryland during the last week in December, the Governor’s Challenge and the Chesapeake Bowl.
Feasting on the Competition over the Thanksgiving Holiday
While many of us were spending time gobbling up Thanksgiving leftovers or camping out for Black Friday deals this past weekend, others were busy competing in some big time tournaments around Maryland. We talked about the NATT Teams Championship in Baltimore last week, but there were plenty of other events going on in Maryland. These athletes were busy devouring their competition instead of turkey.
Despite the Weather, the Race Must Go On
Mother Nature might have thrown a wrench into your weekend plans, but the rain, sleet and snow didn’t stop this past weekend’s big running events on the Eastern Shore. The MEAC Cross Country Championships and the Seaside 10-miler went on as planned despite a mean Nor’easter that wreaked havoc along the coast. No amount of flooding or gusting winds could stop the runners that turned out for both events.
Running to the Shore
The weather is cooling down, but the sports scene on the Eastern Shore is still hot hot hot! If you’re headed to the Eastern Shore this weekend, check out some of the great running events going on down the ocean.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championships are this Saturday at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD. The championships are free and open to the public. The MEAC is encouraging everyone to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. All of the athletes competing will wear pink bibs, while the coaches will wear pink ribbon pins.
Ocean City Stays Busy
Lights, Camera, Action Sports! Dew Tour Takes Center Stage in Ocean City
After months of anticipation, the Dew Tour finally pulled into Ocean City for it’s first stop of the season. Thousands of people flocked to the town’s historic boardwalk for the four-day event. Things got underway with qualifying rounds on Thursday and continued through late Sunday night.
The weather played a huge factor into the event. The weekend started with extreme heat and ended with severe weather. Thursday and Friday saw some of the hottest temperatures that the state had ever seen. Despite the sweltering heat, crowds filled the stands to catch a glimpse of their favorite action stars.
