Baltimore Benefits From Ravens’ Success
The Baltimore Ravens have worked hard all year to earn a spot in the NFL playoffs as one of the top-seeded teams. The motivation was to secure home-field advantage. The Ravens fell one game shy of home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but they did earn a first round bye and a home game against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this coming weekend. For the Ravens, a home game means an advantage on the field, but for the city and state it means dollars being pumped into the local economy.
High School Sports Shine in Holiday Spotlight
Sports fans had a lot to look forward to this holiday season: the NBA was finally starting its season, the NFL was wrapping up its regular season and college bowl games were getting underway. But if you are a fan of high school sports, Maryland was the place to be for the holidays. Two major high school sporting events took place in Maryland during the last week in December, the Governor’s Challenge and the Chesapeake Bowl.
Crab Bowl Showcases Maryland Talent
This past Saturday, select seniors from around the state of Maryland played in the state’s only statewide high-school all-star game, the Maryland Crab Bowl powered by Under Armour. The game took place at Bowie State University and pitted stand-out seniors from the Washington, DC metro area against ones from the Baltimore metro area.
The game featured over 100 all-star seniors representing public and private schools from all around the state. This year, the Washington All-Stars shutdown the Baltimore All-Stars 14-6. This was Washington’s third win in four years.
The Greatest Rivalry in Sports Returns to the Maryland Gridiron
Tomorrow, FedEx Field in Landover hosts the nation’s most enduring rivalry when the Navy Midshipmen take on the Black Knights of Army (game time is 2:30pm EST). Tomorrow’s game will mark the 112th meeting between the two teams. Navy leads the series, 55-49-7, and have won the past nine straight. When Army and Navy meet pomp and circumstance abound, and tomorrow’s game will be no different.
College Sports and Maryland: A Perfect Fit
In recent weeks, Maryland has hosted many NCAA sporting events, like the ACC Field Hockey Championships and MEAC Cross Country Championships, and this past weekend was no different. Two big events took place in our great state this past Saturday: The NCAA Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regionals in Princess Anne and the Notre Dame Shamrock Series game against Maryland in Landover.
Johns Hopkins University… Football?
In the sports world, the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays are synonymous with lacrosse. They have won 44 national championships including nine Division 1 titles and the Lacrosse National Hall of Fame is located on the campus near Homewood Field. However, the football team is on a quest to equate Hopkins with another sport and cement a legacy of their own. Read the rest of this entry
